Hamburg Commercial Bank donates a further EUR 500,000 to charities
HAMBURG/GERMANY – Hamburg Commercial Bank AG (HCOB) is once again donating EUR 500,000 to charitable institutions in 2026. With a total of EUR 400,000, the bank is supporting organisations that help children, young people, women and the elderly in Hamburg. In addition, projects promoting climate protection, biodiversity and democracy will be funded. A further EUR 100,000 will go to an aid initiative for Ukraine launched by HCOB employees. As in the previous year, the recipients of the donations were nominated by the bank’s employees.
“We want our donations to provide targeted support where they can have a lasting impact – by improving educational and participation opportunities, strengthening social cohesion and protecting the environment,” said Luc Popelier, Chief Executive Officer of Hamburg Commercial Bank. “The numerous suggestions our employees have made for charitable causes demonstrates just how important social responsibility is to them. We would like to thank everyone who dedicates their time and energy to making a positive impact on the lives of others.”
#HCOBEmployeesStandWithUkraine is a private initiative by HCOB employees who have been supporting the people of Ukraine since the start of Russia’s invasion. For more than four years now, dedicated colleagues have been collecting monetary and in-kind donations and organising reliable delivery of humanitarian aid to war-torn regions in eastern Ukraine. The initiative’s current focus is on rebuilding and reopening childcare and school facilities in areas close to the front line, where children are currently unable to access community and educational opportunities. This year, HCOB is once again supporting its employees’ commitment with EUR 100,000.
In addition, the following organisations receive funding:
- ALADIN gGmbH supports children of parents with severe mental health conditions through its “Wellengang” project. The donation will help secure individual and group support services for young people affected by this.
- Frauen helfen Frauen Hamburg e.V. offers protection, counselling and refuge in shelters for women and children affected by violence. The aim is to enable them to live independently and free from violence; at the same time, the association is committed to preventive work.
