About Ling
Hi, I’m Ling and I started as a trainee in the Commercial Real Estate Analysis division in Hamburg in November 2024.
The 18-month trainee programme began with an inspiring induction week, during which I, along with the other new trainees, had the opportunity to get to know the bank’s various divisions. My work schedule was then finalised in detail, forming the basis for a comprehensive yet intensive induction.
My first placement took place at my home office for three months. Here, I was able to further deepen my existing understanding of analysis and engage intensively with commercial property analysis. This was followed by placements in the sister analysis teams in Hamburg and Kiel, where I gained an insight into various asset classes – from property development through to offices and logistics. Further placements in cross-functional departments, as well as in 2nd Line, Restructuring and Liquidation, enabled me to examine financing from various perspectives throughout its entire lifecycle within the bank. A placement in the international property team also highlighted the differences between property financing and analysis in Germany and abroad. Work placements in Treasury, Capital Markets and Payments deepened my understanding of cross-selling products as well as topics such as hedging, refinancing and account management. Before returning to analysis, I also completed a three-month placement in Sales – including client meetings in Hamburg and London and insights into ongoing deals.
Even before completing the trainee programme, I was certain that I wanted to stay with the bank as a junior credit analyst in the Real Estate division. Today, I have a much deeper understanding of the subject matter and have already begun to take on my own responsibilities and play an active role in financing and deals. Throughout the programme, colleagues and managers consistently supported me with respect and entrusted me with exciting tasks and responsibilities from an early stage.
Looking back, it was above all the combination of my prior knowledge and the rapid, practical professional development that had a particularly formative influence on me. I thoroughly enjoyed working with colleagues, as well as the many client meetings and property viewings, which further sharpened my understanding of commercial property finance.
Before joining HCOB, I completed an apprenticeship as a bank clerk and a dual degree programme specialising in credit analysis at DZ HYP. During this time, I developed an interest in a market-oriented approach to work and in property. Building on this, HCOB’s trainee programme has enabled me to gain valuable in-depth specialist knowledge and is now opening up a wide range of career prospects for me.
In my spare time, I enjoy being active outdoors and am passionate about dancing and learning English and Spanish.
