HOLBORN
HOLBORN Europa Raffinerie is a successful mineral oil refinery that supplies Hamburg and northern Germany with fuels and heating materials. As mandated lead arranger, HCOB is providing HOLBORN, together with other financing partners, with a total of EUR 200 million for the construction of a biofuel plant.
Financing a sustainable fuel future
With the construction of a latest-generation green diesel production plant (GDP) (RED III) in Hamburg, HOLBORN is successfully driving forward the energy transition in the production of sustainable fuels. The plant will produce around 220,000 tonnes of green diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) per year from 2027. The biofuel will be produced from residual and waste materials and will save 800,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
Project details
Hamburg Commercial Bank has been supporting the development and construction of the innovative plant from the outset and, as Mandated Lead Arranger, is providing a total of €200 million together with other financing partners. The total investment costs for the plant amount to around 475 million euros. The financing is 100% compliant with HCOB’s Sustainable & Transformational Finance Framework and also fulfils the requirements of the EU Taxonomy and RED III. This versatile and environmentally friendly solution promotes the transition to a decarbonised society.
